What to Bring

A list of essential items to help you enjoy your stay at Santipada

  1. Slip on shoes – flip-flops, crocs, sandals etc. (Much easier than untying and tying shoelaces when entering and leaving the meditation hall and your accommodation)
  2. A rain coat and/or an umbrella. (showers occur regularly and are often quite heavy all year round)
  3. Some items of warm clothing. (while Santipada is located in what is referred to as the winterless far north of New Zealand, 5am morning meditations can be a bit chilly sometimes without an extra layer of clothing)
  4. A sun hat and sunscreen. (the sun in New Zealand is intense, particularly in the summer months don’t be unprepared and end up sunburnt!)
  5. A blanket for meditation. (while we provide blankets in the meditation hall, you may have a favourite blanket or similar you’ll feel more comfortable using, please feel free to pack)
  6. A good attitude – The monastery’s way of doing things doesn’t change and there are important lessons to be learnt from our way of life. Trust the process and leave your ego at home please.
